Seven bacolod Betfred Super League clubs have been awarded Grade A status in the indicative phase of the new club grading process which effectively makes them immune from relegation from the start of the 2025 season bacolod
The grades have been introduced as part of a strategy bacolod between Rugby League Commercial and bacolod sports media giants IMG to “reimagine” the sport and award points for five key factors including support base, performance, finances, facilities and community integration bacolod
The indicative stage of the process gives clubs the chance to make improvements prior to the start of the 2025 season, at which point the identity of the 12 Super League clubs will be determined by the rankings, rather than solely next season’s on-field success bacolod
The seven clubs given Grade A licences – which come with the assurance they cannot be relegated – are Leeds, who lead the way with a score of 17 bacolod
49 out of the maximum available 20, Wigan, St Helens, Catalans Dragons, Warrington, Hull KR and Hull FC bacolod
Based on the current rankings, Toulouse and Wakefield, who stand 10th and 11th respectively, would be promoted back into Super League at the expense of 13th-placed Castleford and newly-promoted London Broncos bacolod
Castleford have indicated they intend to appeal their indicative grade based on confusion over a point relating to finance, which if accepted would move them into the top 12 at the expense of Challenge Cup winners Leigh Leopards bacolod
The rankings are also a huge blow to London Broncos, who were promoted back to the top flight this month but rank a lowly 24th, meaning they are almost certain to be demoted at the end of next season, irrespective of their on-pitch performance bacolod
RFL chief executive Tony Sutton said: “Rugby League embarked on a bold journey with the launch of the strategic partnership with IMG in May 2022, and 18 months into that journey, the publication of these indicative club gradings is a highly significant step bacolod

Max Verstappen defied Lewis Hamilton to win a cat-and-mouse United States Grand Prix at a sizzling Circuit of the Americas in Austin - before Hamilton and Charles Leclerc were disqualified more than three hours later bacolod
Verstappen has been on easy street this season, but the triple world champion was made to fight for the 50th win of his career – becoming only the fifth driver to reach a half-century bacolod
Indeed, at one stage, Hamilton dared to dream of ending a losing streak which stands at 686 days and counting bacolod
Yet, as so often been the case this year, Verstappen’s speed in his all-conquering Red Bull machine came to the fore bacolod
He moved ahead of Lando Norris on lap 28 of 56 to all but seal the win bacolod
Hamilton might bemoan a questionable strategy decision which saw him lose 10 seconds to Verstappen in the opening round of pit stops bacolod
But in reality, he probably did not have the pace to stop the Dutchman from claiming his 15th win from the 18 rounds so far bacolod
The drama did not stop there though bacolod
Hamilton and Leclerc were later found to have breached the rules governing the floor of their cars and, in a shock end to the race weekend, were disqualified from the race bacolod
Logan Sargeant, therefore, earned his first F1 point bacolod
The seven-time world champion enjoyed a decent getaway at the start, but he was blocked by Norris under braking allowing Sainz to sneak through bacolod
Norris had seen off pole-sitter Leclerc with a lunge at the first bend to assume the top spot bacolod
As Norris set about building a lead – already two seconds clear of Leclerc at the end of the second lap – Hamilton set about passing both scarlet cars bacolod

Hamilton used the tow to latch on to the back of Ferrari on the 210mph drag to Turn 12, and, assisted by DRS, drew alongside Sainz before sliding underneath the Spaniard bacolod

He was stuck behind Leclerc for an additional five laps before finally making his move on the Monegasque bacolod
He trailed Norris by seven seconds, and Hamilton by four bacolod

”Hamilton then locked up before his race engineer Peter Bonnington was back on the intercom to inform Hamilton that Verstappen – who on new tyres had just lapped three seconds faster than the Briton – was now likely to gazump him when he eventually stopped bacolod

Norris slung his McLaren to the inside on the entry to the first corner in a move to stop Hamilton, but the older Brit gained bacolod better traction out of the corner to slingshot by in his Mercedes bacolod
Verstappen was five seconds ahead and Hamilton started to reel his old nemesis in only to run out of laps bacolod
Sainz took fourth ahead of Sergio Perez with Leclerc sixth and George Russell seventh for Mercedes bacolod
